Acheronians are creatures in The Sinking City

Research on Oakmont's Post-Flood Fauna, by Prof. Westerbrook, Oakmont University. Part four : Acheronians. The biggest, and most dangerous of the new post-Flood arrivals are the Acheronians. They can swallow a whole human body, and are extremely resilient. But most importantly, their tissues respond to reanimation no matter how long they were dead ! This marvellous creature can be revived by applying the proper discharges to the main neural cord located on its neck. I have hypothesized that if we were able to extract this substance from its glands... perharps we would hold the key to curing death itself !'

Acheronians are the biggest wylebeasts you encounter during your trip to Oakmont. They are tall and large, with six arms and six legs. They are powerful, and the player should be careful when facing them, especially in cramped spaces like basements or homes.

They are formed by several bodies merging together.

They attack with their arms and by lunging their upper body at the player. Several strong shots in their weak spot are needed to kill them. One type explodes when killed. The keyframe animation of the creature can be found here (external link).

Trivia

• One Acheronian is summoned in the basement of the Blackwood Manor.
• In Greek mythology, Acheron - the river of woe - is one of the rivers Charon crosses with his boat to lead the dead to the Underworld.
