Oakmont City, Massachusetts, (colloquially known as Oakmont,) is the primary setting for The Sinking City. A large fishing town on the coast of Eastern Massachusetts, Oakmont does not appear on many maps, and its relative isolation from the greater United States has allowed it to develop in unusual ways. It is not far from the town of Innsmouth, which recently suffered a catastrophe.

History[]

Oakmont

Oakmont was founded sometime in the 17th century, and was well-established by the time of the Salem witch trials, when at least one witch reportedly fled there from Salem. The original town was built at the modern-day location of Salvation Harbor.

For much of its history, Oakmont was ruled by the three Grand Families: the Throgmortons, the Carpenters, and the Blackwoods.

Recent Events[]

In 1920, Oakmont was beset by a mysterious Flood that cut it off from the mainland. Whole streets were submerged, necessitating the use of motorboats to travel between the areas of the town still above sea level. Inexplicably, the Flood refuses to recede even after six months, and local residents have begun to suffer from terrifying visions. Other people from across the country who also have visions have been disappearing and turning up in Oakmont as "newcomers", seemingly thinking whatever phenomenon that grips the town may hold the answers to their affliction. As the supernatural crisis continues with no relief in sight, Oakmonters struggle to continue their daily lives.

Districts[]

Oakmont is divided into seven districts.
